Supplying the Full Range of Fuel Gases to Suit Many Applications

Fuel gases are comprised of a specialized group designed to be used for welding and cutting, power for transportation, and heat treating applications. These gases are derived for heat energy, and most of them are comprised – whole or in part – of hydrocarbons, hydrogen, carbon monoxide and oil vapors. Fuel gases are available in gaseous form.

Our experts have over 80 years of experience in the use of fuel gases and their applications. So not only are you getting the best product available, but the expertise and KnowHow™ to go with it. Whether you need to optimize the flame temperature and oxygen jet or to help manage the appropriate safety precautions, we are here for you every step of the way.

C2H2

Acetylene
Acetylene (C2H2) is a colorless gas that is lighter than atmospheric air. It can be produced as a by-product of a reaction between water and calcium carbide. Acetylene is one of the hottest and most efficient of all fuel gases used in many industries. It is widely used in heating processes.

H2

Hydrogen
Hydrogen (H2) is an odorless, colorless and tasteless gas that will burn with an invisible, clean flame. This gas is lighter than atmospheric air. Hydrogen is the only fuel gas that does not contain carbon and has the highest thermal conductivity of all gases, making it an ideal gas for many different industries and their needs.

C3H8

Propane
Commonly known for its consumer use in gas grills, propane (C3H8) is a colorless and highly flammable liquified gas – although it has the lowest flammability range of any of the commonly available fuel gases. As a constituent of natural gas, it is obtained by refining and processing natural gas. Propane is heavier than air, with both a primary and secondary flash temperature. It is one of the main components in liquid petroleum gas (LPG) along with butane. As the ratios of these LPG gases vary from one supplier to another, the flame properties can also differ.

Alternative Fuel Gases

StarFlame
StarFlame cutting fuel burns hotter than other fuel gases so that is cuts quicker. It is more economical and environmentally friendly, and is safer than acetylene and other fuel gases. Features of StarFlame include: a quicker start to steel ignition point at a lower cost, faster cutting speeds, cleaner piercings, minimal slag and weld-back from cleaner flame, significantly less smoke and soot, and reduced potential for torch backfire.

Propylene
Propylene (C3H6) is a colorless, flammable, liquefied gas with a faintly sweet odor. The heat release in the primary flame cone is slightly less than that of acetylene. This fuel gas also burns hotter than propane. When compared with acetylene, propylene offers greater safety as it can be utilized up to full tank pressure. It is well suited to being used at cold temperatures as it has a greater vapor pressure when compared with propane.
